It was downright awesome.

Lynden Gooch has had a great start to the season for Sunderland, and today was his best so far. Gooch had the equalizing goal and then set up the game winner in Sunderland’s 3-1 victory over Accrington Stanley today.

Accrington opened the scoring in just the 5th minute, but Gooch didn’t let the lead last long. In the 7th minute, he had an insane volley on a cross into the box, which soared into the left side of the net for the equalizer.

In the 26th minute, Sunderland would strike again. After the ball deflected to Gooch on the right side of the penalty area, he turned and sent a low pass to the middle of the box, where Aiden McGeady was waiting. McGeady put the ball home, and it was 2-1 Sunderland.

Marc McNulty would add an insurance goal for Sunderland in the 36th minute, and that would hold for a 3-1 final.

Gooch’s goal was his 3rd of the season so far, and he has come on strong so far as the starting right winger for Sunderland in League One. The United States international has stated that he needs to be more “consistent” for Sunderland this season, and so far he’s showing that.
