Yanks Abroad: Goals from Pulisic, McKennie, Reyna, Novakovich, & Boyd

Another fantastic weekend for this exciting pool of American talent playing for clubs abroad.

Each week and every week, Yanks Abroad seems to be more positive than the week before. With so much promising talent spread around the globe, the United States National Team has me truly excited for the first time in a very long time. I was still pessimistic for a while, but I can’t fight it anymore. This is fun.

The group added seven goals & two assists among many solid performances this weekend.

The Giovanni Reyna goal leads the way and simply speaks for itself:

He was the most fouled player on the field (five times) in the 1-1 draw for Borussia Dortmund. The 18-year-old has become quite a pesky player to defend. However, he did lose possession four times, also the most in the match.

Christian Pulisic got his first goal of the season on Saturday as Chelsea came back from an early deficit to win 3-1. Definitely a bit of ball watching from the Leeds defender, but the hunger to get into position is great to see.

The beard is quality as well.

Juventus left it late, but got an exciting 2-1 win in the Derby della Mole with an 89th minute winner from Leonardo Bonucci. Weston McKennie was the one who started the comeback with a beautiful header in the 78th minute.

With just 19 touches over the full 90 minutes, Andrija Novakovich gave his team the win with a brace. He scored the equalizer in the 53rd minute and then gave Frosinone the 3-2 win over Chievo Verona in the 79th.

Alex Morgan recorded her first goal for Tottenham Hotspur. It came from the penalty mark but it sealed the first win of the season for the Spurs Women. They’ve got just six points through eight matches.

The American with the hottest hand at the moment is Terrence Boyd, who scored his fifth goal in the last three matches. However, his Hallescher side were defeated 4-2 at SC Verl.

In a twist that is sure to annoy some of you, Mix Diskerud recorded an assist and turned in a fantastic stat sheet as Helsingborg won 4-3 at Norrkoping. It was a big away victory as they try to climb out of the relegation zone. Mix had four tackles, the most in the match. He created four chances, completed 45 of 48 passes, completed both dribble attempts, and he won seven of ten duels.

Romain Gall also had a very nice game and assisted the winner in Orebro’s 2-1 defeat of Hammarby. The 25-year-old created four chances and hit the woodwork on one of his NINE shots from his position in the midfield. Hammarby was without Aron Johannsson in the lineup because he is likely leaving the club soon.

In other injury news, Cameron Carter-Vickers looks to still be 2-3 weeks away from making his debut for AFC Bournemouth.
