Editor’s note: Thanks to Parker for covering the Community Corner while I was out on bereavement leave. Also, hats off to everyone on the staff for their tireless work, and a special thanks for all of you out there who passed along condolences and well wishes. I truly appreciate it.

As the calendar moves towards September and a delayed start to the 2020-2021 season in Europe, fans of the United States Men’s National Team have been tracking the transfer rumors surrounding USMNT and Schalke 04 midfielder Weston McKennie. After the conclusion of the 2019-2020 Bundesliga season, Schalke announced that they were going to take some measures to help stabilize their financial books, a stability that was riddled by the coronavirus pandemic. Included in that was the possibility of McKennie leaving the club due to his high salary and the potential for the club to attract a large transfer fee.

McKennie has attracted interest from several clubs in Germany, England, and even Spain and France, though it looks like the focus has centered on McKennie either staying in the Bundesliga or making a move to the Premier League, which he prefers. The biggest suitor for McKennie’s services was Hertha Berlin, however it seems that may no longer be a destination after talks broke down a few days ago. Other teams that are apparently interested include Everton, Newcastle, Wolverhampton, Southampton, AS Monaco, and Leicester City. However, Schalke is commanding a large transfer fee (north of ‎€30 million according to some reports) and McKennie would be due for a pay increase from his apparent ‎€2.5 million that he earns per year. He also probably wants a chance to join a club that is playing either in Champions League or Europa League

So, the question of the week is: where is the best place for Weston McKennie to play this coming season? Should he tough it out at Schalke for one more year? Should he move elsewhere within the Bundesliga? Should he move to the Premier League? Or, is France or Spain or somewhere else the best destination for the young American?
