Many different leagues around the globe kicked off their seasons this past weekend, and the Americans wasted no time getting in on the action. Tyler Boyd, Julian Green, and Haji Wright contributed to six goals, while Timothy Tillman had two of the four American assists this weekend. And, we can’t forget Weston McKennie’s debut with Juventus.
Let’s get right to the action from United States internationals in our Yanks Abroad:
Germany
Josh Sargent - Striker, Werder Bremen
It was German Cup day in Germany as Sargent nodded home a header to help his team move on with a 2-0 win. He does well to see the play develop, get into the right position with space around him, and rise high enough to keep the ball under the crossbar. With so many American fans eager to see him take his game to the next level, this is obviously the perfect way to start the season for the 20-year-old. VIDEO
Gio Reyna - Midfielder, Borussia Dortmund
Dortmund smashed Duisburg 5-0 on Monday afternoon as Gio got himself a goal from a free kick. It took a heavy deflection, but we’ll take it! VIDEO

Julian Green - Forward, Greuther Fürth
Green got in on the action during extra time of a 6-1 win. Yes, extra time. Of a 6-1 win. I’m not entirely sure how it happened, but Green scored the go ahead goal in the 100th minute, before 4 more goals would pile on. He’s been around so long it feels like he must be 35 by now, but he is still just 25-years-old. VIDEO

Timothy Tillman - Midfielder, Greuther Fürth
Green’s teammate, 21-year-old Tillman, came off the bench to play 57 minutes and pick up two assists on the day.
Turkey
Tyler Boyd - Forward, Besiktas
Boyd got the new season started off with a BANG on Sunday. He started on the right but had switched over to the left side of the field as he likes to cut inside. He would do just that, giving himself room to curl in a beautiful shot and open the scoring for Besiktas in a 3-1 win over Trabzonspor. VIDEO
Hey everyone how's your Sunday go— oh my GOD TYLER BOYD

Sweden
Aron Johannsson - Forward, Hammarby
This man can’t stop scoring! He scored two goals in two appearances this last week, which brings his total to six goals in the last seven matches (only two of those were starts). Johannsson has become something of a super sub but is really making it hard to keep him off the field.
Denmark
Haji Wright - Forward, SønderjyskE
Making his debut in Denmark, Wright came off the bench in the 63rd minute and put the final stamp on SønderjyskE’s 2-0 win over last year’s champions with a goal in the 90th minute. VIDEO

Very happy for Haji, who had a tough year in Holland with Venlo

Netherlands
Luca de la Torre - Forward, Heracles
Another big debut came from de la Torre as he recorded an assist in his first appearance for Heracles in the Eredivisie. He assisted the second goal in the 70th minute to give his team the 2-0 win over ADO Den Haag.
Joe Efford - Forward, Waasland-Beveren
After scoring his first goal a couple weeks ago for his new club, Efford assisted the lone goal in a 4-1 loss to Club Brugge.
Italy
Weston McKennie - Midfielder, Juventus
He didn’t get a goal or an assist, but McKennie’s debut for Juventus needs to be included here. It’s a beautiful thing to see him playing with Cristiano Ronaldo and under Andrea Pirlo. This was just a friendly, but Juve start the season next week against Sampdoria. McKennie Highlights | Match Highlights
