Yanks Abroad: Sargent’s stunner, Boyd’s winner, & Mix’s dream debut

Josh Sargent’s rocket was just one of six goals this weekend from the Americans playing abroad.

The Americans were on fire over the weekend! We’ve got a match winner, a debut goal, a league first, and an absolute stunner.

You’ve seen it. BUT WATCH IT AGAIN! Josh Sargent came off the bench in the 32nd minute of Werder Bremen’s win over Hertha Berlin. He added a nice cherry on top, scoring a beautiful goal to make it 4-1. The keeper looked downright terrible, but I’m not taking anything away from such a great hit. It was actually a pretty important win as it put some distance between Bremen and the relegation zone.

You’re a wizard, Weston! The Juventus man knocked home a header to double the lead in a 2-0 win over Bologna. Weston McKennie was the clear man of the match and continues to prove he’s a key player for the Italian giants among a plethora of world class talent. They are in fourth place, but hold a game-in-hand to the rest of the league leaders.

As we watch him playing so well, it’s crazy to imagine how differently all this could have turned out....

It may have been the easiest goal he’ll ever score, but Tyler Adams got his first goal in Germany’s top flight. It was his second for RB Leipzig, but the other came during UEFA Champion’s League action. However, the dropped points in the 3-2 loss to 17th place Mainz 05 sees them fall seven points behind first place Bayern Munich.

Down in the second tier, Julian Green added his fifth goal of the season in Greuther Fürth’s 3-3 draw at Fortuna Düsseldorf. It was a calm, cool, & collected finish as he took the ball down in the box with a defender & and the keeper bearing down on him. They had a chance to climb into third place, but the draw keeps them in striking distance of the promotion zone.

More action from Germany came via Terrence Boyd in the 3. Bundesliga. He scored a soaring header in the 90th minute to give Hallescher FC the 1-0 win over Magdeburg. It was the 10th goal of the season for the 29-year-old striker.

It was a dream debut for Mix Diskerud in Turkey! He came on for Denizlispor in the 83rd minute and then pulled one back for his team just five minutes later. But they fell 2-1 to Eric Lichaj’s Fatih Karagumruk, although Lichaj is currently sidelined with an injury.

Alfredo Morales had four tackles and a 97% passing rate, both the best of any player in Fortuna Düsseldorf’s 3-3 draw with Greuther Fürth. Christian Pulisic lost possession five times and lost 11 duels, both the most in the most of any player in Chelsea FC’s FA Cup win over Luton Town.

Duane Holmes has officially left Derby County and signed with Huddersfield Town. He’s quite familiar with the club having played with the Town Academy from 2002 until 2013 when he broke into the first team.
