Yanks Abroad: Goals from Julian Green, John Brooks & Chris Durkin

While the United States Men’s National Team wrapped up January camp with a big 7-0 win over Trinidad & Tobago last night, the Americans playing abroad turned in some great performances as well over the weekend. But, the goals and assists weren’t the only positives. The defenders turned in a few shutouts as well!

John Brooks got his second goal of the season as Wolfsburg shutout Freiburg 3-0. The big centerback has been playing really well and Wolfsburg are sitting in third place, just three points back from Tyler Adams’ RB Leipzig side. HIGHLIGHTS

Making it three goals in one week, Julian Green bagged another on Friday in a 3-0 win for Greuther Fürth. The (still only) 25-year-old now has seven goals and two assists after 18 league appearances in Germany’s second tier. The win keeps them in 4th place and only five points behind first place Hamburger SV, their opponent in two week’s time.

20-year-old Chris Durkin scored his first goal of the season in Belgium’s top flight on Sunday. His St. Truiden side shutout Cercle Brugge 3-0. In a match between two bottom-of-the-table teams, that win gives St. Truiden some breathing room ahead of the relegation zone.

Christian Pulisic came on at halftime an assisted the second goal in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Burnley. His stat line wasn’t very impressive but he did cause a few problem for the Burnley defense on the left side. They are level on points with Tottenham but sit behind them in 7th place, making for an exciting London derby on Thursday. HIGHLIGHTS

Andrija Novakovich also picked up an assist over the weekend. But Frosinone fell 3-1 at Empoli. The 24-year-old has five goals and three assists through 15 appearances in the Serie B this season. Frosinone were nearly promoted last season after a run to the promotion playoff final as the 8 (and last) seed. They were sent back to the second tier with a 1-1 aggregate result, losing on the tiebreaker as the lower seed. They are in 10th place right now, still within reach of the playoffs again this year.

Duane Holmes made his Huddersfield Town debut on Saturday in a 1-1 draw with visiting Stoke City. Over 31 minutes, he created two chances and completed 94% of his passes.

Weston McKennie was absolutely everywhere in Juventus’ win at Sampdoria. He won all five of his tackles, the most of any player. He also finished with 88% passing and created two chances.

21-year-old Mark McKenzie had really nice performance at centerback, going 90 minutes as Genk got the shutout draw at KC Mechelen.
