Our list of 65 Americans playing abroad produced four goals over the weekend. Josh Sargent leads us off with a match winner, but Aron Johannsson is off to a flying start in Poland with another goal. There are currently six players sidelined with injuries, and we also got the news that Ethan Horvath will be out a couple weeks having tested positive for Covid.
Werder Bremen got a big win over fourth placed Eintracht Frankfurt, who had not been beaten in 11 straight league matches. Sargent put his team in front in the 62nd minute and they never looked back. The 21-year-old also won nine duels, completed all three dribble attempts, and added a couple interceptions as well. Bremen are down in 12th place on the Bundesliga table with 26 points and a game-in-hand.
Aron Johannsson has now scored in each of his first two matches with Lech Poznan. But going back to his time with Hammarby, he’s scored in four straight and has eight goals in the last nine matches he’s played! This weekend was the Poznan Derby and his goal in the 80th minute started the comeback against Warta Poznan for a 2-1 win.
Terrence Boyd continued his great run of form with a great header to the back post that opened the scoring in Hallescher FC’s 2-1 win over Lübeck. He missed a couple games back in December but has scored nine goals in his last 11 appearances. Hallescher is in 9th place in Germany’s third tier.
Also on the scoresheet over the weekend was Emmanuel Sabbi, who got his fourth goal of the season in the top flight of Denmark. It was a nice, calm finish in traffic during first half stoppage time as Odense beat Randers FC 2-1. Sabbi will face off with Haji Wright and SønderjyskE this Thursday. The two teams are level on points right at the playoff line.
