Yanks Abroad: Pulisic, Dike & McKennie highlight an exciting weekend

A brace and a match winner were among six goals for the Americans over the weekend.

It wasn’t just the six goals and the assist that made this such a fun weekend for USMNT fans, there were great performances all over the globe. Plus, Bryan Reynolds became the youngest American to start a Serie A match! Let’s get right to the action.

Christian Pulisic’s brace leads the way this week. He he scored two really nice goals and was FotMob’s highest rated player in Chelsea FC’s 4-1 win at Crystal Palace on Saturday. We’re starting to see glimpses of Pulisic at his best once again. Chelsea are in the middle of a very busy part of the schedule, so he won’t have to wait long to keep riding this wave of confidence.

Daryl Dike scored his eighth goal and now has Barnsley FC in 5th place in the English Championship.

Mr. Steal Your Promotion Spot

The 2-0 win over Middlesbrough, and of course Dike’s goal scoring escapades, puts Barnsley in a promotion playoff spot with just five matches left in the season.

Weston McKennie put the game away for Juventus in a 3-1 win over Genoa. The goal came just two minutes after he subbed onto the field. Juve are in third place, but still trail first-place Inter Milan by 12 points.

The classiest goal of the bunch was from Haji Wright in Denmark. The 23-year-old finished off a fast break by calmly rolling ball away from the pouncing keeper, and then slotting it home. This was his first goal since December. SonderjyskE lost 3-2 vs Horsens, but they’re still seven points clear in their relegation group.

If all those goals didn’t make you happy, Terrence Boyd was nice enough to score a match winner for you. Hallescher FC got an exciting 2-1 win after equalizing in the 90th minute getting Boyd’s winner in the 92nd minute. The 30-year-old has now scored in back-to-back matches and is up to 15 goals on the season.

Gio Reyna assisted Borussia Dortmund’s first goal in a big 3-2 win over VfB Stuttgart. The win kept Stuttgart from jumping to within one point of Dortmund, who are in 5th place place at the moment.

We lost one player off the list this week. Alfredo Morales is no longer a Yank Abroad, but a Yank At-Home with his move to New York City FC in MLS.
