The United States is set to take on Honduras at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton, FL tonight in yet another friendly. The Americans drew Ecuador, 1-1, on Friday, but are now set to conclude their October FIFA date work against a fellow CONCACAF opponent.
ESPN will televise the match in English, while UniMas will have it in Spanish. The Worldwide Leader will not have any pregame, going straight into the match at 8 p.m. and squeezing in just a few minutes of preview before the match kicks off.
Unfortunately for the broadcast (and the team), there won't be a very big crowd on hand. They have sold less than 10,000 tickets as of last night so there won't be much of an atmosphere at the 30,000 seat stadium. ESPN can't do anything about that, but they can't do anything about the somewhat underwhelming opponent either.
Honduras is coming off of a horrendous World Cup and is in a period of transition. The U.S. also plays them somewhat regularly so the match-up isn't especially interesting, while the Catrachos play in the U.S. pretty regularly so the Hondurans in the country aren't going to drop everything to see them.
As far as friendlies go, this is about as low key as it gets, but it is still the national team. I's still a chance to see some American stars. It's still a chance to see some youngsters. And, seriously, it's a Tuesday night so what else are you doing.
