The last time the United States got together, they were beating the Netherlands and Germany in Europe. Now they're back again, and they have a friendly against Guatemala to get them before the Gold Cup starts next week.
Next week is the effective start of the Americans' World Cup cycle. They have been playing for the last year, but those were all friendlies. Now they have the Gold Cup and, if they don't win it, a Confederations Cup playoff in October. Then World Cup qualifying starts in November. That whole run starts on Tuesday.
The Guatemala contest is their warmup. It's their last chance to get a feel for what they have, which is important, especially on the backline. And they have to blend Michael Bradley, Clint Dempsey and Jozy Altidore together in the center again after they have rarely played together recently. It's a match to make sure they're comfortable and ready for the grind that awaits them.
The match will be televised live on Fox Sports 1 with John Strong on the call. There will also be a 30-minute pregame show with Rob Stone hosting from the network's Women's World Cup set in Vancouver.
In addition to the English-language TV coverage, UniMas will have the match in Spanish. It will also be streamed on Fox Sports Go.
Match date/time: Friday, July 3; 7 p.m. ET
Venue: Nissan Stadium, Nashville, Tennessee
TV: Fox Sports 1 (English), UniMas (Spanish)
Streaming: Fox Sports Go
