USMNT vs. Peru: Lineups and match thread

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

The last time that the United States took the pitch, they were losing to Panama on penalties in the Gold Cup third place match. And before that they were getting beaten by Jamaica in their earliest Gold Cup elimination since 2002. So now that they're back together again to take on Peru in a friendly, and with the Confederations Cup playoff just a month away, it's time for them to make some big strides.

Jurgen Klinsmann is opting for an unusual defense. Omar Gonzalez is in the starting lineup, along with John Brooks, making for a bit of a change in the center and a physically imposing pair. More interesting are the fullbacks Michael Orozco and Tim Ream, both of whom normally play in the middle.

The midfield is interesting in that DeAndre Yedlin is getting a start on the wing opposite Gyasi Zardes, putting Alejandro Bedoya in the middle. That means Jermaine Jones, in his national team return, need to be a holder. And then Bobby Wood will partner Jozy Altidore up top.

The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET and is live on Fox Sports 1 and UniMas. You can also stream it on Fox Sports Go.
