This young player made an impact.

Despite a 4-2 loss to Colombia at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, there were several brights spots for the United States Men’s National Team, most notably in the attacking group. One player in particular stood out from the rest, earning a much higher performance rating than his teammates from fans at large.

Stars and Stripes FC readers voted and chose Tim Weah as the Man of the Match. The 18-year-old attacker received an average rating of 6.6 from 380 votes, as he keeps surpassing expectations.

His slaloming run and inch-perfect pass to Bobby Wood on the temporary go-ahead goal was the highlight of the night for the USMNT:

Beyond the assist, he continued to display a willingness to take on defenders and make bold choices on the field. If he continues to produce, then he should be a key piece of the USMNT rebuild leading up to the 2022 World Cup.

Weah plays for Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1, but is slated to go out on loan in the near future. “In January, I’ll be ready to go on loan and take my talents to another team and see what I can do for the next half of the season,” he told Sports Illustrated in a recent interview. After a standout preseason, he’s scored two goals in three league and cup appearances, but has understandably struggled to find playing time at the French superclub.
