USA vs. Paraguay, full-time: Young Yanks get the win

The U.S. national team host tough South American opposition.

Full-time: Nothing much to speak about in the second half as it turned chippy. The U.S. get the win and the youngsters get some needed experience.

Half-time: The USA played okay and have a lead. We’ll take it. The play could be crisper, but it’s a throwaway friendly with some guys looking to get experience.

‘44 - USA 1, Paraguay 0: The USMNT has taken a lead very late in the first half. Marky Delgado sprang Tyler Adams for a breakaway and the Red Bulls man was hauled down inside the area for a penalty. Bobby Wood stepped up and slotted home for the 1-0 lead.

Lineups announced: Dave Sarachan has trotted out a lineup mixed with some veterans and youth. As always, it’ll be interesting to see how these young players perform. It’ll be especially interesting to see how Tyler Adams and Marky Delgado do in the center of the field.

Pre-Match: The United States men’s national team gathers in Cary, NC for this international break to take on Paraguay in a one-off friendly. While we all know this summer’s World Cup will go on without the Stars and Stripes, these types of matches are a great chance to meet the next crop of talent that will be trying to right that massive wrong next cycle.

There are a plethora of young and exciting players to pay attention to in this camp. From European standouts such as PSG’s Tim Weah and Schalke’s Weston McKennie to domestic talent like Tyler Adams and Zack Steffen, there’s plenty to be excited about regarding the national team’s future.

This will be no easy test for the young American team. Yes, Paraguay also missed out on this summer’s World Cup, but they are a very talented side led by players like Atlanta United’s Miguel Almiron (Yes, I’m biased. Sue me.) and twin brothers Oscar and Angel Romero.

Who will take advantage of their chance and prove they are USMNT-worthy? It’s time to find out.

Note: We’re trying something new with our match threads. We’ll be updating the post with updates of goals and big moments as they happen. Check back every so often during the match for highlights and commentary.
