According to Doug McIntyre of Yahoo Sports, the United States Men’s National Team will face Jamaica in a pre-2019 Gold Cup friendly on June 5th at Audi Field, the home of D.C. United, in Washington, D.C. This friendly would be the first match between the two teams since the USMNT defeated Jamaica 2-1 in the 2017 Gold Cup Final.

The match is expected to be the first of two pre-Gold Cup friendlies. The Venezuela National Team also claims that it will be playing the USMNT on June 9th in Cincinnati. The Gold Cup begins on June 15th.

Jamaica is currently 54th in the FIFA World Rankings. Mexico (17th), the U.S. (25th), and Costa Rica (37th) are the only higher-ranked CONCACAF teams. The Reggae Boyz would likely be led by a large contingent of MLS players, including forwards Darren Mattocks (FC Cincinnati) and Corey Burke (Philadelphia Union), defender Kemar Lawrence (New York Red Bulls), and goalkeeper Andre Blake (Philadelphia Union).

Both the USMNT and Jamaica will take part in the 2019 Gold Cup and they could meet in the group stage, although we won’t know either team’s Gold Cup opponents until the tournament draw on April 10th. The USMNT has yet to play at Audi Field, and its last match in the nation’s capital was a 1-1 friendly draw against New Zealand in October 2016.
