Wednesday night’s United States Men’s National Team loss to Jamaica wasn’t pretty. There’s no way to sugarcoat it. The team needed to play a lot better to boost the confidence of fans as we enter the final couple weeks before the start of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. What we got instead was a performance to forget, as Jamaica controlled much of the 2nd half and won the game on a terrific goal.
There were very few performances worth noting, and the SSFC community let the team have it in the ratings. In fact, only 3 players earned ratings over 5.000: Zack Steffen, Josh Sargent, and Duane Holmes. Of those 3 players, Duane Holmes, a 2nd half substitute, earned the highest rating at 5.816 and was the SSFC Community Man of the Match. Holmes was one of the lone bright spots in a match that only increased fans’ pessimism around a USMNT seeking to defend its Gold Cup title. Holmes did make the 23-man Gold Cup roster, announced yesterday, so we will see how much he is utilized during that tournament when the USMNT begin play against Guyana on June 18th.
The SSFC player ratings:
Zack Steffen - 5.013
Omar Gonzalez - 4.121
Matt Miazga - 4.845
