The United States Men’s National Team will return to action early next month with friendlies against Mexico and Uruguay. The matches will be the first for the USMNT since a 1-0 loss to Mexico in the Gold Cup final on July 7th. For head coach Gregg Berhalter, it will be a chance to further evaluate talent and shape what his roster will look like before the team begins CONCACAF Nations League play in October.
In looking at who Berhalter could call in for the friendlies next month, he hinted over the weekend that he would opt for “consistency,” bringing in most of his core players and working in some others.

With that in mind, who will Berhalter call in when the roster is announced Wednesday? The idea is that he’ll opt for a 27-man roster:
GOALKEEPERS (3): Ethan Horvath (Club Brugge), Sean Johnson (New York City FC), Zack Steffen (Fortuna Düsseldorf)
DEFENDERS (9): John Brooks (Wolfsburg), Sergiño Dest (Ajax), Nick Lima (San Jose Earthquakes), Aaron Long (New York Red Bulls), Daniel Lovitz (Montreal Impact), Matt Miazga (Reading FC), Tim Ream (Fulham), Miles Robinson (Atlanta United), Walker Zimmerman (Los Angeles Football Club)
MIDFIELDERS (7): Michael Bradley (Toronto FC), Julian Green (Greuther Fürth), Weston McKennie (Schalke 04), Paxton Pomykal (FC Dallas), Christian Pulisic (Chelsea), Cristian Roldan (Seattle Sounders), Wil Trapp (Columbus Crew SC)
FORWARDS (8): Jozy Altidore (Toronto FC), Paul Arriola (D.C. United), Tyler Boyd (Beşiktaş), Jonathan Lewis (Colorado Rapids), Jordan Morris (Seattle Sounders), Josh Sargent (Werder Bremen), Tim Weah (Lille OSC), Gyasi Zardes (Columbus Crew SC)
For the most part, Berhalter will likely call in most of the team that he employed for the Gold Cup. He will be missing Tyler Adams and DeAndre Yedlin, who are still nursing injuries and haven’t played yet for their clubs this season. Berhalter will likely bring back players like John Brooks, Josh Sargent, Julian Green, and Tim Weah. The additions that fans could be excited about if Berhalter opts to bring them in are Sergiño Dest, Miles Robinson, and Paxton Pomykal. Dest has recently joined the first team at Ajax and has performed quite well for himself. Robinson has played really well for Atlanta the past few months and could serve as a backup should one of the centerbacks aren’t ready to go. Pomykal has flourished for FC Dallas and is a youngster that may not see playing time, but could set himself up to make an impact down the line.
