This morning, United States Men’s National Team head coach Gregg Berhalter released his 26-man roster of players for friendlies against Mexico on September 6th and Uruguay on September 10th. Berhalter opted to bring in several players who featured for the USMNT during the Gold Cup, but he also selected a few newcomers who have been making waves on the youth scene. He used the rest of the spots to evaluate some players ahead of the start of CONCACAF Nations League play in October.
The newcomers to the roster are Sergiño Dest and Paxton Pomykal, who both starred for the U.S. U-20s during the U-20 World Cup, and Miles Robinson, who has excelled in his first year as a starter for Atlanta United. Josh Sargent also makes his return to the national team after being one of the final cuts from the Gold Cup roster, and Alfredo Morales makes his return to the national team after a 3-year absence. He last appeared for the USMNT in a May 2016 friendly against Puerto Rico.
The 26-man roster:
GOALKEEPERS (4): Jesse Gonzalez (FC Dallas), Brad Guzan (Atlanta United), Sean Johnson (New York City FC), Zack Steffen (Fortuna Düsseldorf)
DEFENDERS (9): John Brooks (Wolfsburg), Reggie Cannon (FC Dallas), Sergiño Dest (Ajax), Nick Lima (San Jose Earthquakes), Aaron Long (New York Red Bulls), Daniel Lovitz (Montreal Impact), Tim Ream (Fulham), Miles Robinson (Atlanta United), Walker Zimmerman (Los Angeles Football Club)
