If you are looking for a silver lining coming out of Friday’s 3-0 loss to Mexico, our nation’s biggest soccer rival, you’ve come to the wrong place. The game was not particularly close on Friday and people are frustrated with the results, the system, and the process. The community rankings pretty clearly display that frustration. There was apparently one player who stood above all the others, the only player to score above a 5 in the rankings: Christian Pulisic, who finished with a 6.037 ranking and was thus your SSFC Man of the Match. What really stands out though are the number of rankings in the 2s and 3s, with seven players, including five starters, falling to that level.
The full SSFC rankings were as follows:
Zack Steffen - 3.260
Reggie Cannon - 4.402
Walker Zimmerman - 3.625
Aaron Long - 4.291
Sergino Dest - 4.309
Wil Trapp - 2.737
Weston McKennie - 4.405
Alfred Morales - 4.741
Tyler Boyd - 3.663
Christian Pulisic - 6.037
Gyasi Zardes - 2.254
Jordan Morris - 4.534
Miles Robinson - 4.215
Josh Sargent - 4.188
Daniel Lovitz - 3.396
Sebastian Lletget - 4.256
Jackson Yueill - 3.703
Clearly, there is a gap in talent level between the United States and Mexico currently, but the low scores from top to bottom beg the question of whether the players are being put in the best position to succeed. Let us hear your thoughts in the comments below.
