USMNT to play Wales in November

The match is back on after COVID-19 took it away in March.

Finally, the United States Men’s National Team will be back on the field! This morning, U.S. Soccer announced that the USMNT will play Wales at Liberty Stadium, home of Swansea City, on November 12th. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:45pm ET and will be shown by FS1, Unimas, & TUDN.

The USMNT last were on the field back on February 1st, when they beat Costa Rica 1-0 in their annual January Camp. It’s the lone match they have played in 2020. The USMNT were originally scheduled to face Wales in Cardiff on March 30th, but the coronavirus pandemic forced the cancellation of that match. Rumors that the two teams were trying to reschedule that match have been circulating for a while, and now it’s fully official.

It will be only the second time that the USMNT has faced off against Wales in its history. The first time was a 2-0 victory by the USMNT back in May 2003 at Spartan Stadium in San Jose, California. Landon Donovan and Brian Ching were the goal scorers. This time around, the USMNT will face a Wales side that likely includes Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey, Daniel James, and Ben Davies.

Due to the pandemic and the restrictions currently in place by the United Kingdom, there will be no fans allowed in the stadium. It is also expected that head coach Gregg Berhalter will bring in a European-based roster of players, with no players coming from the United States. It will be interesting to see which players would be allowed to leave their teams as COVID-19 hits a second wave across the European continent. Still, assuming things don’t get worse, we will finally see the USMNT play at least one more time to close out this unprecedented year.

U.S. Soccer noted that they are still working on a second match during the November international window. Stay tuned to Stars & Stripes FC for coverage of the USMNT for this match and any other that they play during the November international window!
