USMNT November friendly roster announced

And, another match is announced!

Election Day wouldn’t be a thing without some U.S. Soccer news, right? Today, United States Men’s National Team head coach Gregg Berhalter announced his 24-man roster for next week’s friendly match against Wales. The roster is comprised of almost all American players based in Europe, with an American playing in Brazil, Johnny Cardoso, getting the call up to the roster. No MLS players got a call up, likely due to coronavirus quarantine restrictions on Americans traveling to Europe from the United States.

It’s the first roster we’ve seen for the USMNT since January Camp. The roster that would have been for friendlies against Wales and the Netherlands back in March never was announced, as the matches were postponed once the coronavirus pandemic took flight. This roster will include Chelsea star Christian Pulisic, who was injured in warmups before their match last weekend against Burnley. Pulisic reportedly was set to be out for a number of weeks with a hamstring injury, but apparently he was back on the training grounds this morning for Chelsea. Berhalter opted to bring him to camp.

Also buried in this announcement is the news that the USMNT will also have another match. They will play Panama on November 16th at Stadion Wiener Neustadt in Wiener Neustadt, Austria. It will be the 3rd time the USMNT has played in Austria, but the first time it will not include the host team. Match time was not immediately available.

The USMNT roster for next week’s friendly:

GOALKEEPERS (3): Ethan Horvath (Club Brugge), Chituru Odunze (Leicester City), Zack Steffen (Manchester City)

DEFENDERS (7): John Brooks (Wolfsburg), Reggie Cannon (Boavista FC), Sergiño Dest (Barcelona), Matt Miazga (Anderlecht), Tim Ream (Fulham), Chris Richards (Bayern Munich), Antonee Robinson (Fulham)

MIDFIELDERS (6): Tyler Adams (RB Leipzig), Johnny Cardoso (Internacional), Richard Ledezma (PSV Eindhoven), Weston McKennie (Juventus), Yunus Musah (Valencia), Owen Otasowie (Wolverhampton)

FORWARDS (8): Konrad de la Fuente (Barcelona), Nicholas Gioacchini (Caen), Christian Pulisic (Chelsea), Uly Llanez (Heerenveen), Gio Reyna (Borussia Dortmund), Josh Sargent (Werder Bremen), Sebastian Soto (Telstar), Tim Weah (Lille)
