Stars and Stripes FC Crest Contest: The winner

Drum roll please.

Unfortunately, the Stars and Stripes FC Crest Contest had to come to an end at some point, and that point is today. But the good news is that it comes with a winner.

The contest started on January 31st with a call to you -- design a new U.S. Soccer crest. You all delivered with so many great designs that would put the current official one to shame and, on Wednesday, we cut the more than 20 entries down to four. From there, we had to pick a winner from the four finalists and we have.

The winner is ... Mark Yesilevskiy.

Congratulations to Mark. He will receive a $100 World Soccer Shop gift certificate, which I assume will be used to be either (a) a U.S. jersey or (b) as many items that say "Stu Holden" on them as possible. He also gets 1,000 internet points.

Thanks again to everyone who entered the competition. There were great submissions that didn't even make the final cut, which is a real testament to how great of a job everyone did. Now it's time for the U.S.S.F. to get a whiff of freedom and change the crest -- any of the finalists will do, but we would recommend Mark's.

Well done, internet.
