The United States is set to return to a modern spin on a classic look. This morning, Conrad Burry leaked the latest images of what the 2018 jerseys will look like when they are released:
CONFIRMED: I've just seen official images of the 2018 US Soccer primary + change kits (to be officially unveiled Friday). Here's up-to-date mockups that are ~95% accurate. Only thing I haven't seen is the # font to be used. The back neck of both reads "USA" in white on red tab. pic.twitter.com/96vmMclJNs

We have seen leaks of the jersey before, but now thanks to Conrad, we have a bit more detail. The home jersey takes us back to a similar design as the 2012 home jersey, more affectionately known as the Waldos. Many fans have called for the Waldos to be the permanent home design for the USMNT and USWNT, but the 2018 jerseys will tie into that theme. The home jersey will be a predominantly white jersey with gradient, disappearing hoops on the front, starting in red and transitioning to royal blue. The hoops start small up top and lengthen as you go down the jersey. The sleeves will be white with a gray stripe pattern.
The back will be a solid white and it is expected that the name and numbers on the jersey will be blue. The necktape will have a red box with a design featuring an eagle with wings looking up at stars and incorporating the “One Nation, One Team” theme that U.S. Soccer has employed over the past few years. A normal US Soccer crest sits on the left side of the chest, with the Nike swoosh in royal blue on the right. It is expected that these jerseys will be paired with white shorts and white socks with a royal blue stripe.
The away jersey seems to pick up where the gradient, disappearing hoops left off on the home jersey, with a navy blue jersey with royal blue gradient, disappearing hoops going down the front. This time, the hoops start long up top and then shorten as you go down the jersey. The sleeves will also have a similar stripe pattern to the home jersey. The necktape has a similar red box to the home jersey but with a different, circular design with “One Nation, One Team” forming the logo. The back will be all navy and the name and numbers will be white on the away jersey, with the Nike swoosh on the front also in white. The U.S. Soccer crest on the away is also its regular crest with no alterations. This jersey will likely be paired with navy shorts and royal socks with a navy stripe.
While these jerseys will not be worn by the team during the World Cup in Russia this summer, they will be available for use by the men all the way through early 2020, which could mean the team would wear them for the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup and would also wear them if invited to the 2019 Copa America. The USWNT will have these jerseys available for this fall’s CONCACAF Women’s Championship and then the 2019 Women’s World Cup. So, though these jerseys won’t be worn at the world’s biggest tournament, these uniforms will see meaningful games in the future.
The jerseys are rumored to be released on Friday, with the USMNT debuting the new kits next Tuesday in their friendly against Paraguay. It is expected the USWNT will have the new look for their two friendlies against Mexico, in Jacksonville on April 5th and in Houston on April 8th.
What do you think of U.S. Soccer’s 2018 jerseys?
