The International Champions Classic is well underway, and Christian Pulisic put on a show yesterday in Charlotte. Borussia Dortmund took on Liverpool at Bank of America Stadium yesterday, and 55,447 were there to see the United States Men’s National Team phenom perform. And perform he did. The 19-year-old American scored twice in a 3-1 Dortmund victory.

After a 25th minute Virgil Van Dijk goal for Liverpool, it was still 1-0 in the 65th minute when Pulisic was tackled in the box, earning a penalty for Dortmund. Mario Götze immediately walked up to take the penalty, but Pulisic had other plans:

That’s right, that sound you heard was Christian Pulisic’s music! He confidently took the ball away from Götze, lined up to take the penalty, and emphatically slotted it home for the equalizer.

In the 89th minute, Pulisic put on his superhero cape to bring the match home for Dortmund. On a counter attack, the ball eventually made its way to Marcel Schmelzer on the wing. Schmelzer sent it to the top of the box, where Pulisic was waiting to smash it home for his second of the match and the game winner.

Dortmund added a 3rd goal late in stoppage time to make it a 3-1 final in Charlotte. But, this sort of play is exactly what American fans want to see from Christian Pulisic. And naturally, it impressed his former coach who had a front seat for it all, Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp. Let’s hope that the rest Christian Pulisic had this summer means this is just the start of a terrific season.
