It’s Underdog Week at SB Nation, and included in that is celebrating the unappreciated and under-appreciated players in sports. The United States men’s and women’s national teams have had many players feature over the years that were under-appreciated for their talents. Maybe they weren’t the best players on the field, but they routinely got it done for the national team.
Not everyone can be a star on a team. Every team in sports has a player or two who doesn’t perform for the accolades. They may be overshadowed by others, but they grind it out and when you look back at the match, you realize they were all over the field or they hounded an opponent into submission, or they were the engine that drove the team to victory. We’ve have them in American soccer, and now it’s time to show them some love.
Today’s Community Corner asks you: who is your pick for most under-appreciated American player? Who was the player on the USMNT or USWNT that you felt deserved more credit than they received for their play? Hit the comments and pick one and then tell us why you think they should be on the under-appreciated list.
