We are in the second week of Rivalry Week, and this week we’re going to take a look at one of the best rivalries in the world: United States vs. Mexico. There are so many matches that one can view to understand how passionate this rivalry is in men’s soccer. It dominates CONCACAF, it’s the one that each of us looks forward to watching, whether it’s in Columbus or Estadio Azteca.
However, when we think about the best match in this rivalry, it’s already known for most USMNT fans: Jeonju. The Round of 16 match that took place between the two sides on June 17, 2002 during the 2002 World Cup is easily the one match that we hold over the heads of our rivals. 2-0. Dos a Cero. In the World Cup. That’s almost a nobrainer.
However, instead of asking which one is the best, this week’s Community Corner asks: what is your favorite USMNT-Mexico of all time? It could be that match in Jeonju because of all the stakes, but there are so many others that hold sentimental value to each of us. Is a particular goal, like Benny Feilhaber in the 2007 Gold Cup final or Michael Bradley during World Cup qualifying in 2017? Is it the Golden Point in 1997 or Michael Orozco Fiscal giving us our only win in the Azteca in 2012? Is it a Dos a Cero in 2001, 2005, 2009, or 2013 during World Cup qualifying in Columbus? You tell us!
Hit the comments and tell us the match that’s your personal favorite and what makes it stand out above all the rest!
