USMNT midweek viewing guide: Qualification station

Americans across Europe vie for places in the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League.

As we move forward from a massive Gold Cup triumph, there are Americans in play from MLS to South America and across the spectrum of European competition qualification.

Let’s get into it! Here’s a snapshot of USMNT players in action. Injured players are highlighted in red, dual-nationals in blue, and players with friendlies are italicized.


  • CFR Cluj v Young Boys, 2p: Jordan Pefok and Young Boys take on Cluj in the first leg of Champions League qualifying.
  • Genk v Shakhtar Donetsk, 2p: Mark McKenzie gets his first taste of European action as Genk faces Shakhtar.

Also in action:

  • FC Twente v Venezia, 9a: This morning’s friendly featured the club sides of Kik Pierie and Tanner Tessmann.
  • St. Pölten v Rapid Wien, 12:30p: Uly Llanez begins his new club season on loan from Wolfsburg with St. Pölten in Austria’s second tier.
  • Manchester City v Blackpool, 1p: Man City friendlies are of special interest to USMNT fans, as they can feature Zack Steffen, Philippe Sandler, and Erik Palmer-Brown.
  • Malmö FF v Rangers, 1p: Romain Gall’s parent club attempts to qualify for Champions League (Gall is on loan with Örebro SK).
  • Memmingen v Bayern II, 1:30p: Taylor Booth and Malik Tillman could see action with Bayern’s reserves in the German 4th division, although both have been with Bayern’s first team in friendlies this summer.
  • PSV Eindhoven v Midtjylland, 2p: Richie Ledezma’s PSV attempts to qualify for the Champions League without him, as he continues to work his way back from injury.


  • RB Salzburg v FC Barcelona, 1p on ESPN+: A friendly that pits Sergiño Dest with Brenden Aaronson? Fun! Young Swiss-American CB Bryan Okoh could also see the field for Salzburg.
  • Ferencvaros v Slavia Prague, 2p on Paramount+: Henry Wingo and Ferencvaros continue Champions League qualifiers.
  • Chelsea FC v Tottenham Hotspur, 2:45: A friendly that could feature Christian Pulisic as well as Matt Miazga and Cameron Carter-Vickers.
  • Tigre v Independiente, 3p on fuboTV, Fanatiz: Alan Soñora and Independiente play in the Argentine cup round of 32.
  • New York Red Bulls v FC Cincinnati, 8p on ESPN+, fuboTV: Caden Clark and the Red Bulls take on Cincy.
  • Seattle Sounders v FC Dallas, 10p on ESPN+, Prime Video: FC Dallas’ traveling troupe of young guns, led by Ricardo Pepi, face a strong Seattle side that also has a couple kids getting minutes in Josh Atencio and Reed Baker-Whiting.

  • Getafe v Beşiktaş, 1p: It remains to be seen if Tyler Boyd will be leaving Beşiktaş this summer; he could see action in this friendly.
  • Heracles v HSC ‘21, 1p: Luca de la Torre and Heracles continue their long run-up to the Eredivisie season.
  • Valencia CF v AC Milan, 2:30p on ESPN3: Yunus Musah will likely miss this friendly due to injury.
  • CF Montréal v Atlanta United, 7:30p on ESPN+, fuboTV: Djordje Mihailovic and Mason Toye take on the Five Stripes.
  • Columbus Crew v DC United, 7:30p on ESPN+, fuboTV: DC United features academy signings Kevin Paredes, Moses Nyeman, and Griffin Yow.
  • Philadelphia Union v Toronto FC, 7:30p on ESPN+: Old vs. young as Leon Flach and Jack McGlynn take on Bradley and Altidore.
  • Chicago Fire v NYCFC, 8p on ESPN+: Keaton Parks, Alfredo Morales, and Tayvon Gray take on Brian Gutierrez and the Fire.
  • Orlando City v Inter Miami, 8p on ESPN+: Chris Mueller and Andrés Perea take on Robbie Robinson and Indiana Vassilev, plus recent Miami signing Ventura Alvarado.
  • Austin FC v Houston Dynamo, 9p on ESPN+: Memo Rodriguez will try to work some magic against MLS’s newest expansion side.
  • LA Galaxy v Real Salt Lake, 10:30p on ESPN+: David Ochoa, Aaron Herrera, and Rubio Rubin take on Julian Araujo and the Galaxy.
  • LAFC v Sporting KC, 10:30p on ESPN+, fuboTV: Battle of US-eligible goalkeepers with youngster Tomás Romero facing veteran Tim Melia.
  • Portland Timbers v San Jose Earthquakes, 10:30p on ESPN+, fuboTV: Cade Cowell and Jeremy Ebobisse headline this battle.


  • Omonia Nicosia v Flora Tallinn, 12p on Paramount+: Mix Diskerud and Omonia have a Europa League qualifier.
  • Maccabi Haifa v HB Torshavn, 1p: Josh Cohen and Haifa attempt to qualify for the Conference League.
  • Galatasaray v St. Johnstone, 2p: DeAndre Yedlin and Galatasaray fight for a place in Europa.
  • Breidablik v Aberdeen FC, 3p: Christian Ramirez looks to continue his solid start for Aberdeen in Conference League qualifying.
  • Raków Częstochowa v Rubin Kazan, 3p: Ben Lederman will likely miss this match for Raków after recently suffering a major injury.
  • Querétaro FC v Club León, 10p on TUDN, fuboTV: Liga MX is entering the third Apertura matchday. Querétaro features two Yanks in winger Joe Gallardo and new signing Bryan Olivera (arriving from Fénix in Uruguay’s top tier).
