Haji spent 4 years with the Bundesliga side, but it was difficult for him to break into the first team. He spent most of his time with Schalke’s youth team and reserve side, but eventually made 7 appearances for the first team last season. He scored one goal, a finish back in December that was assisted by fellow American Weston McKennie.
For VVV-Venlo, Wright will hope to break into the starting lineup and earn more playing time with a team that finished 12th in the Eredivisie last season. It could prove to be a league where Wright could flourish and gain some confidence. Whether he’s using this as a way to eventually return to Schalke or catch the eye of another big club, he has an opportunity to get consistent first-team minutes at Venlo.
