It’s finally done! After reports earlier this week surfaced that Weston McKennie was on his way to Serie A giants Juventus, the move was made official today. Juventus announced the signing of the 22-year-old American midfielder on loan for the 2020-2021 season.
Juventus will officially loan McKennie from Schalke 04 for this season for €4.5 million, with an option to turn the loan into a permanent transfer at the end of the season for €18.5 million. That number could jump up to €25.5 million depending on various performance objectives that are met by McKennie in his time with the Bianconeri.
Weston McKennie becomes the first United States international to play for the Old Lady, joining Arthur Melo as new coach Andrea Pirlo’s second midfield signing this offseason. There will certainly be more changes to the Juventus side as Pirlo attempts to make his mark in his first season as a head coach. Pirlo reported desired McKennie to bring his tenacious defensive ability to Juve’s midfield. It’s a hell of a birthday present for McKennie, spent his 22nd birthday yesterday getting his medical completed and finalizing the details of his new deal.
