It was rumored a couple weeks ago, but now it’s finally done. Reggie Cannon is leaving FC Dallas for Portugal. The 22-year-old right back has signed with Boavista FC of the Primeira Liga. Terms of the deal were not included in FC Dallas’ official statement, but they will receive a transfer fee for the United States Men’s National Team defender.
Cannon joined FC Dallas as a Homegrown Player in December 2016 and had 75 appearances for them in 4 seasons. He had 3 goals and 5 assists for the club. He now moves to Porto to join Boavista FC as they hope to compete in the top half of the Primeira Liga this season. Boavista finished 12th last season in the league. A successful stint in Portugal for Cannon could lead to a further move elsewhere in Europe. But, it’s a big move to leave his boyhood club for a strong league to test himself against advanced competition.
