The United States -- and the rest of the world -- will find out their path to the U-20 World Cup tonight. The official draw will be conducted in Auckland, New Zealand at 11:30 p.m. ET and it will be streamed live on FIFA.com.
The American side is one of the most talented the country has had in years. It is packed with professional players from around MLS, Liga MX and Europe, with potential future stars like Emerson Hyndman, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Rubio Rubin. Gedion Zelalem may even join the squad, giving it some extra punch.
FIFA has announced the pots for the draw and the Americans have been put in Pot 3. Note: African qualifying will not be done until March.
Pot 1: New Zealand, Germany, Qatar, Mexico, Argentina, African champion
Pot 2: North Korea, Myanmar, Uzbekistan, Africa 2, Africa 3, Africa 4
Pot 3: Honduras, Panama, USA, Brazil, Colombia, Uruguay
Pot 4: Fiji, Austria, Hungary, Portugal, Serbia, Ukraine
Ideally, the U.S. would get New Zealand, Myanmar and Fiji. If there is any justice, they may even get it too considering that two years ago they got an absolutely brutal group of Spain, France and Ghana.
