Welcome back, soccer nerds. It’s time for another youth World Cup. That beautiful time of the year where we all gather around the television and twitter and pretend to know every single detail about our country’s under-17 program. I’ll level with you. I know very little, except for the fact that this team boasts some high quality talent. They showed that in Panama earlier this year when they dominated the competition in qualifying, only to lose to Mexico on penalties after giving up a second-half stoppage time equalizer.

The list of attacking prospects this team has could be something to behold 10 years from now. With the likes of Andrew Carleton, Josh Sargent, Ayo Akinola, and Timothy Weah, there could be some future stars in this group. For now, it’s all about watching and evaluating the next crop of American players and seeing who could make the leap to the U-20’s and possibly all the way to the national team.

In the last cycle, some kid by the name of Christian Pulisic was starring for the U-17’s, so it’s not inconceivable that any of these players are just moments away from stardom at the club and international levels. Grab your favorite snack, pull up wikipedia, and let’s watch some soccer. Shall we?
