It’s looking very likely that the 2018 World Cup will be the first time since the 2002 tournament that the United States and Ghana won’t play each other on the world’s biggest stage. The Black Stars are all but eliminated from CAF qualification, making a fourth straight meeting at the World Cup impossible. However, we will get a small taste of the budding rivalry at the U-17 World Cup today.

After making easy work of the hosts on Friday, the young Americans look to keep their momentum going against Ghana in the second group match of the tournament. However, Ghana are also riding high after a 1-0 win over Colombia in their first group match. Whichever team comes out on top (assuming one does) will have all but punched their ticket to the knockout rounds.

Josh Sargent, Andrew Carleton, and Chris Durkin were on target in the USA’s 3-0 win over India in the first match. This will undoubtedly be a much tougher test and a great measuring stick for just how good this young team is.
