Jonathan Klinsmann son of former USMNT coach Jurgen Klinsmann and the U.S. U-20’s starting goalkeeper is headed to Germany to train with VfB Stuttgart. His father starred there as a striker from 1984 to 1989. Klinsmann is set to train temporarily with Stuttgart's U-23 team as he looks to make the roster for the upcoming U-20 World Cup.
Stuttgart currently resides in the 2. Bundesliga which is also the home for USMNT midfielder Julian Green. This apparently isn’t the first time that Jonathan has trained with German side.
“A good workout under the best conditions can never hurt,” Jurgen Klinsmann said. “That is why he is training with the U-23 of VfB for some time. I am very grateful to VfB that they made handled this so uncomplicated and quickly. In addition, Jonathan has a very good relationship with the team.

The elder Klinsmann also keeps out of his son’s way when it comes to career path.
“I keep myself completely out. He is a keeper – and others can judge this better. When I see him after the training, he’d had a very good impression. ”

The UC Berkeley sophomore was a vital cog in the USMNT U-20’s during the CONCACAF Championship. He picked up five starts on the way to being named the best keeper in the tournament, receiving the Golden Gloves award.
