The championship match.

Despite U.S. Soccer’s success on the senior national team level over the past 28 years or so, the USA has never won the U-20 CONCACAF Championship. Today they get another chance to erase that fact when they take on Honduras. In the grand scheme of things this match means very little. To my knowledge, winning it doesn’t help with seeding for the World Cup, which this team has already clinched a spot in.

However, it’s clear to see that Tab Ramos is taking this match very seriously. He sacrificed his captain, Erik Palmer-Brown, in the 30th minute on Wednesday after the team had their match against El Salvador in hand to save him for today. Ramos wants to win this tournament.

Like the U.S., Honduras went 2-0 in the Classification Stage to earn a ticket to the World Cup. Both teams will likely be going hard for the win in this one. Can the U.S. finally win a CONCACAF Championship? We’ll find out.
