Jason Kreis names U-23 20-man Olympic qualifying roster

Last night, United States U-23 national team head coach Jason Kreis announced the 20-man roster that will compete in the 2020 CONCACAF Men’s Olympic Qualifying Championship this month in Guadalajara. The team will seek to qualify for the Olympics for the first time since 2008.

The team will compete in a Group A that also includes Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, and hosts Mexico. Group B consists of Honduras, Canada, El Salvador, and Haiti. The U-23s open up group play on March 20th against Costa Rica, with matches against the Dominican Republic on March 23rd and Mexico on March 26th. The top two finishers in each group will advance to the semifinals. The winners of the semifinals will advance to the final of the CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Championship and will also earn their place to the Olympics this summer in Japan.

GOALKEEPERS (3): Matt Freese (Philadelphia Union), JT Marcinkowski (San Jose Earthquake), David Ochoa (Real Salt Lake)

DEFENDERS (6): Reggie Cannon (FC Dallas), Justen Glad (Real Salt Lake), Chris Gloster (PSV Eindhoven), Aaron Herrera (Real Salt Lake), Mark McKenzie (Philadelphia Union), Erik Palmer-Brown (Austria Wien)

MIDFIELDERS (6): Brenden Aaronson (Philadelphia Union), Hassani Dotson (Minnesota United), Richard Ledezma (PSV Eindhoven), Djordje Mihailovic (Chicago Fire), Paxton Pomykal (FC Dallas), Jackson Yueill (San Jose Earthquakes)

FORWARDS (5): Jeremy Ebobisse (Portland Timbers), Jesús Ferreira (FC Dallas), Jonathan Lewis (Colorado Rapids), Ulysses Llanez (Wolfsburg), Sebastian Saucedo (UNAM Pumas)
