There have been a couple changes to the United States U-23 roster as January Camp opens in Florida. Philadelphia Union goalkeeper Matt Freese and D.C. United centerback Donovan Pines have been brought into the U-23 camp to replace David Ochoa and Julian Araujo. Ochoa suffered a right quad injury prior to camp, and Araujo is withdrawing due to illness.

The team is in a joint January Camp with the USMNT in Bradenton, Florida. They will train until later this month, when several of the U-23 players will be elevated to the USMNT roster for an expected friendly match that has yet to be announced.

Matt Freese and Donovan Pines are no strangers to the U-23 national team. Freese has 3 caps with the U-23s, allowing just one goal. He has been on the last four U-23 rosters. Pines also has 3 U-23 caps, and this is his third call-up to the team. He’s been a steady contributor to D.C. United in 2020, with 16 appearances and 3 goals.

The updated roster for the U-23s:

*Perea is ineligible to play due to not filing a one-time switch from Colombia to represent the United States
