It’s finally here. One year after the tournament was postponed due to the onset of the Covid pandemic, the Concacaf Olympic Qualifying Championship begins tonight in Guadalajara, Mexico. The United States U-23s begin their quest to qualify for the Olympics when they take on Costa Rica in their first match in Group A. The U-23s need to start off on the right foot with a win, and with a roster that is heavy with players that have been involved in the U-23 cycle, the continuity should help the chemistry on the field. One roster change has taken place, with Tanner Tessmann replacing Uly Llanez (ankle injury) late yesterday.
Will the USMNT U-23s be able to show fans that they have embraced the pressure of trying to qualify for the Olympics for the first time since 2008? Or, will the pressure be too much for them? Costa Rica is hungry to also get to the Olympics, and they would love nothing more than to steal points from the U.S. A great start is key, and the U.S. U-23s are set on doing what they can to take all 3 points from this match.
