Tanner Tessmann has been added to the USMNT U-23 roster ahead of the team’s opening match against Costa Rica in Olympic qualifying today. He replaces Uly Llanez, who departs the team due to an ankle injury. The roster remains at the maximum 20 players.
Concacaf rules allow for the replacement of an injured player on the 20-man roster up to the day prior to the team’s opening match. Concacaf granted U.S. Soccer’s request to have Llanez replaced yesterday. Tessmann, who had remained with the team as an alternate, was added to the roster.
The Alabama native had a terrific rookie year with FC Dallas, logging 21 appearances last season. He has been training with the team since March 1st down in Guadalajara, and will be available today as the tournament begins.
