The United States U-23s are in the semifinals of the Concacaf Olympic Qualifying Championship, finishing 2nd in Group A following wins against Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic and a loss to Mexico last night. They await the winner of Group B, which could be Honduras or Canada, and the big date is Sunday evening, where a win will clinch a spot in this summer’s Olympics.
On the other side of the pond, the USMNT is playing in two friendlies: today against Jamaica and Sunday against Northern Ireland. As both teams seek to develop depth in the player pool, there are players on the U-23 team that could easily be in Europe with the senior squad, while the USMNT has plenty of players that could be a huge boost to the U-23s in their quest to become Olympians.
What if we could use a magic wand, a Time Turner, a private jet, whatever could be used to send one U-23 player from Europe to Mexico for the big game on Sunday, but we had to switch them with a player currently in Mexico who would join the MNT in Belfast? The trade should theoretically be one that can help both teams get the crucial win to make Sunday a wonderful day. That’s our Community Corner question of the week: who would you trade? The player has to be U-23, but don’t worry...you have plenty of options on the USMNT.
Which one would you send to Mexico to bring an Olympic berth home? And which player would you send to Belfast in return? Hit the comments and discuss!
