This is the big one. The match that American fans have been waiting for is upon us, and the stakes are high. The United States U-23s will seek to qualify for the Olympics when they take on Honduras tonight in Guadalajara. The winner of the match will be in the field in Tokyo this summer, while the loser goes home to think for 3 more years about what could have been.
Over 5.5 years ago, the exact same semifinal opponent awaited the USMNT U-23s. However, Honduras shattered their dreams by beating the U.S. 2-0. The U.S. have never beaten Honduras in a knockout tournament on the U-23 level, and they’ll need to get the biggest win in the program’s history to book their ticket to the Summer Olympic Games.
