The United States has played, and won, three matches in the CONCACAF Women's Championship, but they're irrelevant now. It's the knockout stages and if they win tonight, they qualify for next summer's World Cup. If they lose, they are sent to a third place match for another chance to qualify.
At this point, the U.S. only has one thing in mind: qualify tonight.
The U.S. will have to do that against Mexico, the team that almost knocked them out of the World Cup in qualifying last time around. The Americans are heavy favorites, again, but still have to get the job done.
Jill Ellis has pulled a surprise in not starting Abby Wambach. Instead, Sydney Leroux starts at center forward, with Tobin Heath and Christen Press flanking her. The other surprise is Becky Sauerbrunn on the bench, with Whitney Engen starting.
United States: Hope Solo, Meghan Klingenberg, Whitney Engen, Christie Rampone, Ali Krieger, Lauren Holiday, Carli lloyd, Megan Rapinoe, Tobin Heath, Sydney Leroux, Christen Press
The match is live on Fox Sports 1. Let's do this!
