The knockout stages are finally here. The United States did the job in the group stage, winning Group D, but now it's win or go home. The pressure is on and the Americans' quest for a record third World Cup title turns up a notch.
Today it's about beating Colombia. The draw has worked out magnificently for the U.S., setting them on an easy path to the semifinals with Colombia and China in the round of 16 and quarterfinals. But that only means something if the Americans play to their potential and roll through like they should.
Jill Ellis has opted for the same lineup she used against Nigeria in the group stage finale, with Abby Wambach and Alex Morgan up top as well as Tobin Heath on the wing. The only question is which wing Heath plays on, as she and Megan Rapinoe can both play either side.
United States: Solo; Klingenberg, Sauerbrunn, Johnston, Krieger; Rapinoe, Lloyd, Holiday, Heath; Morgan, Wambach
Colombia: Perez; C. Arias, N. Arias, Clavijo, Velasquez; Montoya, Gaitan; Ospina, Rincon, Andrade; Vidal
The match kicks off at 8 p.m. ET on Fox Sports 1 and NBC Deportes. LET'S DO THIS.
