Germany are into the World Cup semifinals. Now the United States is looking to join them there and setup a match-up of the top two ranked teams in the world.
To get there, the U.S. will have to beat China. The Americans haven't played China in the World Cup since 1999, when the U.S. prevailed on penalty kicks in the final. Things haven't gone so well for China since, as they've fallen from the ranks of the world's best, while the U.S. has stayed on top. And as we go into this match, the Americans are heavy favorites.
The U.S. has to make do without Lauren Holiday and Megan Rapinoe today because both are suspended for yellow card accumulation. Jill Ellis has opted to use Morgan Brian in Holiday's central midfield spot, while Kelley O'Hara is taking over for Rapinoe on the wing.
United States: Solo; Klingenberg, Sauerbrunn, Johnston, Krieger; Heath, Brian, Lloyd, O'Hara; Rodriguez, Morgan
China: Wang Fei; Liu, Wu, Li, Wang Shanshan, Zhao, Lou, Han, Tan, Wang Lisi, Ren
The match gets underway at 7:30 p.m. ET and will be televised on FOX. Let's get to the semis!
