This afternoon, the United States Women’s National Team announced the final matches in their 2019 Victory Tour, with matches against South Korea to be held in Charlotte on October 3rd and again in Chicago on October 6th.
The USWNT last played South Korea in October 2016, with matches in New Orleans and Cary, North Carolina. The USWNT won those matches 3-1 and 6-0, respectively. It has been 19 years since the USWNT last played in Charlotte, so they make their return to the Queen City after a lengthy absence. However, North Carolina is where their road to the 2019 Women’s World Cup began. The team ran through qualifying in Cary last October, not allowing a single goal throughout qualification. The team last played in the Chicago area during last year’s Tournament of Nations, where they defeated Brazil at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Illinois to capture the Tournament of Nations crown. They now will play at Soldier Field in a match that will mark the end of head coach Jill Ellis’ time with the national team. She announced the end of her tenure earlier this week.
