A couple regulars were left off the list.

The Olympics are coming up next month, and with yesterday’s announcement of the USWNT squad, it’s the talk of the internet. With a deep player pool, cuts were going to be made by head coach Vlatko Andonovski to get down to the 18 player maximum, and we saw a roster that was comprised of most of the players who made the Olympic roster 5 years ago.

We had some of the younger players who were left off the roster in favor of the experienced. Injured players like Julie Ertz and Tobin Heath are making the trip to Japan, and Andonovski is bringing Casey Krueger, Jane Campbell, Catarina Macario, and Lynn Williams as alternates.

So, a reminder of the Olympic roster:

GOALKEEPERS (2): Adrianna Franch (Portland Thorns FC), Alyssa Naeher (Chicago Red Stars)

DEFENDERS (6): Abby Dahlkemper (Manchester City), Tierna Davidson (Chicago Red Stars), Crystal Dunn (Portland Thorns FC), Kelley O’Hara (Washington Spirit), Becky Sauerbrunn (Portland Thorns FC), Emily Sonnett (Washington Spirit)

MIDFIELDERS (5): Julie Ertz (Chicago Red Stars), Lindsey Horan (Portland Thorns FC), Rose Lavelle (OL Reign), Kristie Mewis (Houston Dash), Samantha Mewis (North Carolina Courage)

FORWARDS (5): Tobin Heath (Unattached), Carli Lloyd (NJ/NY Gotham FC), Alex Morgan (Orlando Pride), Christen Press (Unattached), Megan Rapinoe (OL Reign)

ALTERNATES (4): Jane Campbell (Houston Dynamo), Casey Krueger (Chicago Red Stars), Catarina Macario (Lyon), Lynn Williams (North Carolina Courage)
