The United States Women’s National Team will be hanging out in the Midwest this fall. Today, U.S. Soccer announced a series of 4 friendlies that the bronze medalists will play in September and October as fans can welcome the team back home from the Olympics. It will also serve as the final matches in the long international career of Carli Lloyd.
The USWNT will open the series on September 16th as they take on Paraguay at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland. Kickoff for that match is set for 7:30pm ET. The two teams will then travel down I-71 to Cincinnati to play on September 21st at TQL Stadium. It will be the first time the USWNT have played at the newly-opened stadium. Kickoff for that match is also scheduled for 7:30pm ET. Both of those matches will mark the first time the USWNT and Paraguay have ever faced each other on the senior international level.
In October, the USWNT will head to two familiar sites to play a familiar opponent. On October 21st, the team will head to Kansas City to take on South Korea at Children’s Mercy Park. Kickoff will be at 8:00pm ET. Finally, the world champions and South Korea will travel to Minnesota on October 26th to play at Allianz Field in St. Paul. That match will mark the final time fans will be able to see Carli Lloyd play in a USWNT uniform. That match also has an 8:00pm ET kickoff.
“The work never stops and every game we play has meaning,” said WNT head coach Vlatko Andonovski in a statement released by U.S. Soccer. “These games are important to welcome back our Olympic Team to play in front of our home fans, but they are also the first steps towards 2023 World Cup qualifying. We all know we have to be at the top of our game to win at the highest levels and the dedication of the entire group to that pursuit will never change.”
