Fans of the United States Women’s National Team will soon say goodbye to Carli Lloyd, who announced her retirement from pro soccer earlier this week. One of 4 players all-time with 300 international caps, Lloyd has been discussed as one of the legendary players to put on the USWNT jersey.

However, with a program like what the USWNT has built over the past 35 years, there have been a ton of legendary players that have dominated the world on behalf of the red, white, and blue. Players like Michelle Akers, Mia Hamm, Julie Foudy, Kristine Lilly, Christie Rampone, Briana Scurry, Kate Markgraf, Tiffeny Milbrett, Abby Wambach, and Heather O’Reilly are constantly being thrown into the mix when discussing the best players ever. Add to that some of the players who still wear the jersey and compete for the USWNT: Megan Rapinoe, Becky Sauerbrunn, Tobin Heath, Crystal Dunn, Julie Ertz, Christen Press, and so many others, this conversation will only become harder in the coming years.
