Predicting what the USWNT will do in 2024

We look at what the USWNT could accomplish in the new year.

Happy New Year, and welcome to 2024! It’s a huge year for soccer, particularly on the women’s side, and the United States Women’s National Team have a busy schedule ahead of them. From the W Gold Cup to the Olympics, all while gradually ushering in the Emma Hayes era, the USWNT have a lot to look forward to as we enter the new year.

This year will also come with its fair share of questions. How will Emma Hayes make her mark on this team? Can they gel in time for the Olympics? Who will be the next USWNT legend to hang up her cleats? Who will emerge as the next great star? 2024 should provide lots of excitement on and off the field. So, we offer some thoughts that some may call bold while others may say should be expected on what the USWNT will do in 2024. Let’s make some predictions!

The USWNT will win the silver medal at the Olympics.

Emma Hayes will take over a couple months before the Olympics and inspire the team to establish that they’re still one of the best teams in the world. However, they will lose to Australia in a shocker in the gold medal match, forcing the team to settle for silver.

The USWNT will win the W Gold Cup.

The very first W Gold Cup debuts in February, and the USWNT will start the year by confirming they are the best team in the Americas. They have a couple of struggles along the way, but they lift the W Gold Cup trophy in San Diego on March 10th.

6 players from the Women’s World Cup roster will be off the USWNT by year’s end.

Once the Olympics is over, Emma Hayes will start bringing in some new players to fully begin the new World Cup cycle. With that will mean that some legends will be seeing their final moments on the USWNT. 6 players who made the Women’s World Cup roster will be off the USWNT by the end of the year.

The USWNT will win 2 road games.

The USWNT will hit the road again this year, taking on a couple of strong teams and beating them. It will signify the strength of the USWNT has returned, beating some very strong teams in their own buildings.

The USWNT will end the year at #1.

The USWNT will do enough to leap past Spain and reclaim the #1 ranking in the world by the end of the year. A W Gold Cup title and the silver medal at the Olympics will get them close, and the fall slate of matches will be enough to get them back to the top of the table.

2 players will score 10+ goals for the USWNT.

The USWNT are going to return to their normal business of scoring a lot of goals. Two players will score 10+ goals for the team in 2024.

The United States & Mexico will lose the hosting rights for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.

USWNT-adjacent, the United States & Mexico have jointly bid for the hosting rights for the 2027 Women’s World Cup. They are going up against Brazil and a joint bid between Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands. The United States & Mexico may be the favorites, but Brazil will upset everyone and be selected as the hosts when FIFA votes on May 17th.
