USMNT World Cup preparation: Brazil weather report

It will be hot and humid in Brazil. Surprise!

Michael Heiman

So much of the talk going into the World Cup is about the weather. It may be the winter in Brazil, but it will be hot and humid, especially in the northern part of the country, where the United States will play all three of their group stage matches.

With that in mind, and with the World Cup just weeks away, it's time to start at looking what the weather in the Americans' host cities is like.

Natal

vs. Ghana, June 16

It's 85 degrees with 78% humidity and scattered thunderstorms in Natal today. It will cool down at night, dropping to 72 degrees, but the humidity is going to jump to 96% and the city is supposed to be hit by huge thunderstorms. The U.S. will play Ghana at 7 p.m. local time so it's worth keeping an eye on the evening weather

Over the next few days, the temperatures are supposed to jump a few degrees, even touching 90, but the humidity and thunderstorms are expected to stay away until Thursday.

Manaus

vs. Portugal, June 22

The weather in Manaus, which is in the middle of the rainforest and normally extremely hot and humid, isn't too different from Natal. The temperature is only going to reach 86 degrees with 74% humidity and thunderstorms. It doesn't change too much at night, which is notable because the U.S. will play Portugal at 7 p.m. local time.

The next few days are going to see more of the same weather. The temperatures aren't going to reach the 90's, but the humidity will be around 80% and there are thunderstorms expected every day of the week. The U.S. can probably plan on it raining when they take on Cristiano Ronaldo and Co.

Recife

vs. Germany, June 26

Of all the cities the U.S. will play in, Recife is expected to offer the mildest weather, but it won't be cool and easy. Temperatures in Recife still reach the 80's, as is the case today with a high of 84 degrees. Humidity is at 69% and while temperatures dip to 74 degrees at night, the humidity will jump to 84%. The U.S. will play Germany at 1 p.m. local time so the daytime weather is what matters in Recife.

The temperatures in Recife will be in the low 80's for the rest of the week, with thunderstorms on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
